Technologies that restore function and alleviate pain

Center For Bionics & Pain Research

CBPR is a multidisciplinary engineering and medical collaboration between Chalmers University of Technology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, and Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.

Our Mission

At the Center for Bionics and Pain Research (CBPR) we explore, develop and clinically implement technologies and treatments to restore functionality and alleviate pain due to sensorimotor impairments.

Sensorimotor problems affect the interpretation of sensory information and cause difficulties in executing movement. We work with individuals who have limb amputations in the development of robotic limbs controlled by muscle signals. We are developing surgical and non-surgical treatments to reduce pain in individuals with sensorimotor impairments. We also work with individuals recovering from stroke to improve the outcome of their rehabilitation using technologies and therapeutic interventions that we design and manufacture.

Research Sharing

By working closely with clinicians throughout the development pathway, we can define the requirements and collect evidence required for establishing new technologies as standard of care.

Treatment of complex conditions, with custom solutions using surgical reconstruction, neural interfaces, osseo-integrated implants, A.I., neuro-stimulation and modulation, sensorimotor training.

Development of effective and long-term successful medical-engineering solutions requires a thorough understanding of the underlying conditions and must consider the patient at the center of the development.

Spreading knowledge by providing training for clinicians, educating students, informing patients and the public, and striving towards making our research and software publicly available.
